II. Overview
The Protectorate is the longstanding defensive and peacekeeping force of the Free Nation of Three Towers. In 2300 it consists of roughly 3,000 members, all of which are fiercely loyal and even fanatical in their roles of ensuring the safety and security of those within their borders. Despite being perhaps the most powerful and numbered faction within the Seattle Wasteland, crime tends to increase in the areas further away from the Inner City.
The Protectorate has the responsibility to not only keep the massive Inner City safe, but to also protect the Nuclear Power Plant, which is outside of the Inner City to the Northwest (near present day Fort Lawton); the Water purification plant just outside the North entrance to the Inner city, on the Southern banks of the Union lake; and the Oil Refinery, roughly 25 miles north of the Inner city closer to the present day town of Everett.
The Protectorate claims the peninsulas to the west of Inner city, the lands south extending to the NCR border at Tacoma and Olympia. To the East, the Protectorate claims lands as far as the former 97. Patrols to the further regions are often motorized, and are few and far between. This of course allows gangs and crime to run at higher rates, the further in distance from Inner City.
III. Structure
The Protectorate’s structure mirrors a WW2 era Army loosely, in part due to an intact history museum present in the years of its formation. This is also true to their appearance and tactics.
The leader of The Protectorate is the General of the Protectorate Gary Oswin. He serves as one of the Three Heads of State, The Protector. His duties to the state are its Protection, and the Regulation of Borders, Foreigners, and Trade. In truth, his position is traditionally more political; however, Oswin is much more active with his forces. Oswin is known to do whatever it takes to ensure the freedom of his people. Of note, he is against Foreign Citizenship and has imposed harsh regulations on Trade; it is believed he has a poor outlook on outsiders.
Below the General of the Protectorate is the Lieutenant General. Traditionally, the Lieutenant General, who is currently Donald Bolt, effectively commands The Protectorate. Of course, Oswin overshadows him, and this has made General Bolt much more of an Executive Officer. It is clear that Bolt holds an almost opposite view in Foreign Relations than Oswin, however rumor is that Bolt has stayed a top Commander due to his brilliance in Tactics.
The last of the Generals, Brigadier General Earnest Haines, is the third in command. He is in charge of Logistics, and it is his duty to ensure that The Protectorate is properly equipped. General Haines is rarely seen by the public, and very little is known of the man. What is certain is that he is fairly old, and what else is also certain is that he must administer nearly flawlessly, as The Protectorate is currently under plentiful Supply, and heavily armed.
Below the three Generals are three Colonels. The Colonels are particularly responsible for their Area of Responsibility. Each are assigned roughly 1,000 troops (Battalion), and are held accountable to protecting the citizenry and maintaining their freedom. Each of the Colonels doubles as the Areas Highest Judge, or Third Tier, determining if an accused of a Major Crime is indeed guilty. The three are generally equal, however it is considered much more prestigious to be given charge of the Inner City.
The first is Colonel Roger Gardiner. Colonel Gardiner is given charge of the Inner City and its surrounding area. He is given the responsibility of both the Water Purification Plant, and the Nuclear Power plant. The Colonel takes his job most seriously, and is seen inspecting his troops often. It is plain knowledge that when it comes to the Law, he has zero tolerance. He has been known to raise sentences to make a point to any would be criminals… sometimes to the punishment of Death.
The Colonel in charge of the lands North and East of the Inner City is Clara Mosley. It is her duty to ensure the settlements to the North and East are patrolled regularly, and that the Oil Refinery near Everett is protected. Of the three Colonels, she has the highest number of Mechanized troops, but also has the largest area of Responsibility. It is noted that she is the highest ranking female in the Protectorate.
Lastly is Colonel Peter Cain, in charge of the Southern Border and the Western Peninsulas. Colonel Cain is in charge of the least populated areas of the Seattle Wasteland, and therefore puts his focus on the Border with the NCR. This has left the Western lands, known as Olympic Park, generally vacant of the Protectorate. Whether or not the hierarchy has taken notice, or has ordered this, is in question.
Following is a Rank structure that details the remainder of ranks within the Protectorate, from lowest to highest.
Initiate- An initiate is the equivalent of a Recruit. New members are known as such until they complete initial training.
Private- The first true rank within the Protectorate. Privates maintain the roles as foot soldiers and street cops, often the first responders to any incident or conflict.
Corporal/Tech Corporal- A Corporal is the second rank of Enlisted members, and his duties taking charge of Fireteams, small groups of privates on various duties. Tech Corporals are men and women who are chosen to work in Mechanized groups.
Sergeant/Tech Sergeant- Sergeants are veteran Members and take charge of Squads, varying in size. Tech Sergeants are often in charge of Vehicle patrols or formations.
First Sergeant- The senior enlisted member of a Company, which consists of multiple squads. The First Sergeant is the Right hand of the Captain in charge.
Sergeant Major- The Senior enlisted member of the Battalion, and right hand of their respective Colonel.
Lieutenant- The lowest Officer Rank. They serve as an executive officer to thier companies, and often serve as first tier Judges.
Captain- The Captain is in charge of a Company of troops, roughly between two and three hundred strong. They double as second tier Judges of thier respective areas.
